GOOD NUTRITION FOR ME - CLICK HERE TO FIND A MORE COMPLETE LIST OF FOODS
I will always be adding to the "Good for me" list, along with photos of things you can actually find at the grocery store-but as a general rule, if it is real food, I know it is good for me. Organic veggies and fruit are best but if not available, the fresher the food the better, the darker the color the higher the antioxidant value. Fresh is better than frozen and I never get frozen veggies or fruit with added ingredients. I also don't do veggies or fruit in cans (except tomatoes). I know sweet potatoes are better for me than white potatoes and brown rice is great fiber for detoxing. Good, clean water, alkaline, if possible, half my body weight in ounces helps flush out my body and organic juices help get good nutrition to my body quickly. If you can't afford to buy organic juices then read the labels of the store brands and purchase the ones that DON'T have artificial ingredients. BE CAREFUL AND READ LABELS THOROUGHLY - A product can say ALL NATURAL even if it only has ONE natural ingredient and can contain HARMFUL ingredients. If you can't pronounce it you probably can't digest it! To read more about our government's "buyer beware" attitude you can visit my old HealinTheEarth site. Bentonite clay is also good for detoxing metals out of my body as is cilantro, an herb used in cooking Mexican food. Lemons in water makes it alkaline for a good flush too. Probiotics (acidophilus etc.) is good to help re-establish a healthy digestive system. More later:) Many of us are accustomed to having cereal and fruit in the morning. Those high carbs are more easily digested mid day. "Fit for Life" suggests fruit first thing in the morning but I know I do better with protein first thing; a protein shake, a piece of fish, an egg, a slice of turkey or last night's left over chicken is great way to start my day.

Alcohol makes my liver slow down and I have an under active liver to start with so it causes me to gain weight and feel sluggish-even if I am only drinking 1 glass of wine every day. Caffeine is something I don't do very much of now, but it is known to interfere with the bodies' processes so it is another good thing to eliminate. Anything white-white flour (bread), white rice and white pasta - just remember, anything white is like glue-it will stick to you on the inside ! Processed foods, frozen foods with additives, preservatives, etc. etc.- if it isn't REAL FOOD, I don't eat it-especially when I am trying to lose weight. Anything artificial-sweeteners, colors, flavors-if it says artificial, I don't want it in my body. Especially the sweetners-studies have proven when people STOPPED drinking diet drinks and usings artificial sweetners they lost an average of 40 pounds. Even regular sodas are useless calories and the carbonation leeches the calcium from my bones so I don't drink them anyway. It may sound like I don't eat or drink much-but when I am trying to accomplish a weight loss, I do my best to eat and drink real food. For a more complete list with explanations CLICK HERE.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Proper nutrition is one of many tools I use to control my diet, my appetite and my energy levels. When I eat healthy foods I find I am not as hungry as when I eat junk food. Teas and herbal supplements help me control my food cravings along with yoga and Qi (chee) gong. Yes, exercise not only helps you "burn calories" and lose weight, it helps your energy flow more efficiently so you will want to eat less because your body is operating more efficiently. You feel better, you begin to look better and think better. Finding the "things" that work for you and using a combination of different practices can help you reach your "target weight" more easily and keep it there while allowing yourself to enjoy life and food thoroughly:)
