Diane's Detox...Let's Heal

Healin The Earth is a lot of work, but I think it is worth it !

Watching the trees being tossed around by the invisible wind outside my friend’s Atlanta apartment is the perfect environment to reflect on the “Awakening to Wholeness Workshop” I attended last week in Virginia Beach. The invisible force and the interconnectedness of the universe is visually apparent as I put my thoughts to paper.

I can honestly say the four day program was the most productive, life changing workshop I have ever attended. The combination of the four diversified presenters and the staff at A.R.E. provided the attendees with effective healing tools in the perfect environment to enrich our individual paths of healing the earth.

Registration was Thursday morning, September 11th at the Association for Research and Enlightenment, the foundation started by Edgar Cayce in 1931. We were greeted with smiles, badges, and a packet of papers including schedules and detailed information on everything we would be discussing over the next 4 days.

One of the sheets we were given was a delightful game which encouraged us to talk to people we did not know. Our treasure hunt mission was to fill a page with signatures from those with a variety of accomplishments. We needed to find a vegetarian, a European traveler, a resident of the south, etc. These completed sheets were put into a basket with winners drawn three times each day. The room was buzzing with approximately 300 excited attendees when bells were chimed signaling the start of our seminar.

Christiana Ramquist, our day time facilitator, welcomed us by filling us in on what was in our packets, how our days would be structured, and asked us to turn off our cell phones and join her for a few minutes of silent prayer.

You could feel the energy of the room change from chaotic excitement to calm-oneness in silent prayer. As she brought us back from our prayer the level of attention intensified as she introduced the first presenter.

Some grabbed for pens and paper, I reached for mine and then decided I would not attempt to take notes. I didn't want to miss one single word. I was just going to listen, absorb and have faith I would remember everything I needed to pass on. I wish I had a recording of everything that was said at this conference, it was all SO important. All I can do is share with you the parts I found to be the most meaningful (and memorable) and give you each of the presenters’ websites so you can further your education on healing yourself. I also recommend, if you are not a member of A.R.E., their membership is extremely affordable and their staff, and Edgar Cayce’s teachings, are priceless.

As the first speaker of our conference ran up to the stage the audience roared with applause. C. Norman Shealy, MD, PhD, a vibrant man beaming with joy, is a legend in his own time. He's written 23 books, recorded over 30 CDs on health and happiness, founded the American Holistic Medical Association in 1978 and continues to be one of the forerunners in Alternative Healthcare, Chronic Pain Management and Renaissance Medicine. I could write a book on his background (an accomplished neurosurgeon and psychologist), another book on his contributions to medical science (TENS system for chronic pain amongst them), and another book on his philosophies of treating the soul, mind and body as a whole, but instead, I’ll invite you to visit his website and sign up for his free weekly newsletter at
www.selfhealthsystems.com.

Remembering him rolling around on his back on the stage will forever bring a smile to my face as he was showing us the point to begin his exercise for what he calls the “Ring of Air.” I can see him in my mind’s eye with his feet in the air, grabbing the toenail of his stockinged foot saying, “Here, right here,” laughing all the while. We were all laughing with him as we applied pressure to the top of our toenails.

Once back on his feet he told us how that beginning point for this exercise came to him. Norm is a medical intuitive. He co-founded the American Board for Scientific Medical Intuition with Carolyn Myss, and he receives messages regularly from Spirit World on how to help us heal ourselves. He smiled as he told us when he received instructions for this exercise he politely questioned Spirit by saying, “But the end of the toenail is not an acupressure point.” Apparently, Spirit World answered him immediately with, “It is now. Call it Spleen 1A.” I can attest to the fact when I rub the points he suggested I found it to be an effective method of moving energy quickly.

He educated us about the history and the Science of Medical Intuition and gave us instructions on diagnosing not only other people’s health, but our own. We are all born with intuitive abilities and we experience them throughout our lives. Many physicians are beginning to consult with a medical intuitive when they can’t find a cause for an illness. Often times there are emotional and spiritual dis-eases which do not show up in their tests.

Norm also showed us a bouncing exercise he learned from the Edgar Cayce Books, very similar to the jogging I teach in my Qi gong exercise except it was very vigorous bouncing along with rapid hand movements. I must remember to try to incorporate the more vigorous exercise into my lessons for those who are more fit and want to burn more calories.

This first morning not only gave me a good exercises and great information to pass on to others, it also validated the importance of my recent desire to memorize acupressure points. I had just begun studying a book on acupressure points and wondered if I really needed to learn them. Apparently, I do.

The morning and afternoon breaks we took were welcome, there was so much information being absorbed. The majority of the people attending the workshop were healers by profession, so the breaks were filled with interesting conversations.

I also spent a great deal of time listening. The presenters were available when they weren’t on stage and spoke freely with anyone and everyone. I happened to be eavesdropping on a conversation after lunch and undoubtedly, it was meant for me to hear.

After eating, I stopped at the reception desk to ask if they had anyone on staff who did past life regression. The woman said she wasn't aware of any, but gave me a paper with a list of psychics in the area. I thanked her and walked into the break room to have a cup of tea and think a little more about whether or not I really wanted a past life regression. Many claim using hypnotherapy to investigate our past lives leads us to a deeper understanding about ourselves and help us cure “dis”eases we may have. Fortunately, I have been feeling very healthy and wasn’t sure I wanted insight into my past lives. I have been told I may find out things I may not want to know.

As I sat down in a vacant seat in the break room the first words I heard coming from the table beside me were spoken quietly and sincerely, “I think past life regression is one of the best, most important things we can do for our health.” I looked over to see 5 people listening intently to our morning's speaker, Dr. Norm Shealy. I decided to give my own past life study more thought.

Their conversation slowly turned to the essence and spirituality of children and one woman told a story about the birth of her grand daughter and how beautiful it was holding that new born 9 months ago. When I heard her say those words “9 months ago” I thought of the title of my upcoming book, “Nine Months Ago, Was Yesterday,” and how much I was looking forward to it’s final editing stage. The next words out of her mouth were, “Yes, November 30th, 2007 was one of the most beautiful days of my life.”

I drew a breath and let a few of my recurring, spontaneous tears flow, thinking of that day in my life. My husband of nine years, had unexpectedly died on that day, and that day was far from being my most beautiful memory. I try to rejoice and think of him beginning his new life in eternity but find it difficult sometimes. Here was The Unseen Healing Force giving me something to really celebrate on November 30. When they were done speaking I asked her for her grand daughter’s name so I could send her good energy on her first birthday and explained it would give me something pleasant to think of while enduring the first anniversary of my husband’s death. She thanked me for sharing my story and would send healing energy to me on that day. It was wonderful being in the midst of so many healers and so much LOVE.

We gathered for our afternoon session with Oly Schalow, formerly part of the business world as an extremely successful attorney, now Medical Intuitive and Energy Medicine Specialist. I smiled when she iterated our first task, “Put away your pens and paper and please do not take notes. Everything of importance I will say is in the packet you were given. I want you to practice living in the now and have faith you will retain what you need.” I guess those voices inside my head who’d told me not to bother with notes knew what they were talking about. I’m learning we all have intuitive abilities.

Where Norm was lively and energetic, Oly was warm and fuzzy, exuding unconditional love and filling the room with her beautiful spirit. She shared her wisdom and methods with us freely so we could help ourselves and others heal this earth, one person at a time, starting with that ever important one in the mirror. If we are not healthy and whole when we intuit, we open ourselves to a myriad of potential dis-eases.

Oly also spoke to us of the importance of focusing on our spiritual intention, always maintaining a sense of higher purpose, never reading for self-indulgence. She starts by clearing the area with smudging and/or white light and asks for assistance from the Unseen Healing Force.

By bringing volunteers up to the stage, one to be read and three to read, she demonstrated how quickly and easily a reading can be accomplished. She asked the volunteers who were doing the reading to determine where their psychic strong points were; were they clairaudient (did they hear things?), clairvoyant (see things?) or clairsentient (feel things?).

The first gentleman they were to read had already received a doctor’s diagnosis so the volunteers were not going to try guess what was wrong with him. They were to determine if they could see the root cause of the disease he was fighting. Nearly all diseases are caused by an imbalance of energy somewhere in the body and in finding the source of dis-ease, in this man’s case, throat cancer, he would be able to work on his own self-cure.

Oly stressed the validity of the first thoughts that popped into the readers’ minds. One of the biggest blocks when reading is intellect, as demonstrated by one of the volunteers doing the reading. After the reading was finished, the man whose intellect was getting in the way had also been diagnosed with throat cancer and was in the process of releasing his disease. I found it quite perfect they were on stage together.

One of the most entertaining nuances of Oly’s presentation was her conversations with The Other Dimension. She would ask a question and take a few seconds to listen to

Their messages before telling us what They said. Occasionally she would verify her understanding of Their message using kinesiology. She would put one of her hand’s fingers in a circle while the other hand pulled against it for resistance asking a question that could be answered with a “yes” or a “no.” Fortunately, most people present at this conference accepted the presence of The Unseen Healing Force, appreciated the messages from Spirit World and understood kinesiology. She also showed us how to stand still and use the balance of our body, falling forward or backward for a yes or no answer, and then laughed explaining she uses it often at her local health store to determine whether or not she needs a supplement. They know her well.

She explained to the group each of us would develop our own style to medically intuit our patients, but we should always start by clearing, remembering to ground, setting our intention and tuning in to our client and trusting our hunches.

One of the things I can hear her saying over and over again is to put love and compassion into people and things in our lives we cannot change. By pushing back at something which is pushing us, we create more force, more resistance. It’s simple physics. By allowing something to flow and putting positive energy into it will facilitate the movement of the block. She also instructed us to lose our perception of what is good and what is bad, things just are.

Another important point she brought up was for those who were already healthcare professionals. She said, “If you find you are treating a lot of your clients for the same illness you have or prescribing similar treatments and herbs that you are taking, you may want to stand back and look a little closer at your diagnoses and at yourself.”

The first evening there was a presentation on music and dance with Ellen Cayce. The music we listened to and the dances we did were insightful. We began by standing in a huge circle holding each others hands and simply dancing around the room happily. It obviously raised the vibration in the room and the energy was a happy one.

The next dance was similar to a conga line with Ellen leading. As she led the line back and forth she encouraged everyone to look into each person’s eyes when passing them and imagine them to be the relationships we had had throughout this lifetime. It was wonderful making eye contact with so many smiling faces.

The last of the partner dances we did involved holding the hands of another and dancing in a circular motion looking deeply into the other person's eyes saying, “All I want for you, forever, is to remember me loving you.”

The first person I did it with looked deeply into my eyes and it brought a wave of goose bumps, the next person I did the dance with was my dear friend, Rose, also, the instigator of this delightful trip. The dance and the song had a different meaning when I danced with her, I am so thankful for her friendship. The next woman I danced with would not make eye contact with me. She looked off into the distance and watched the other dancers. I wondered if she was getting anything out of this exercise.

The last woman I danced with had deep, dark eyes and when I danced and sang the lyrics with her, I had all I could do to keep from sobbing. I felt as though I were looking into the soul of the universe and my husband was there and I knew he was telling me to always remember how much he loved me and I him. While we were putting our shoes on I recognized her on the floor beside me and I shared the deep emotions I’d felt while doing the dance with her. She shared with me her father was dying and she was seeing his eyes in mine and imagined telling him to always remember how much she loved him. We all have our stuff, and it felt so good to share my stuff with loving, caring, people.

Friday morning began with Peter Van Daam's exercises. At 7:45am there were a handful of people gathered in the meditation garden to listen to Peter tell us how he had been involved in the Edgar Cayce teachings for 20+ years. He told us, “You will see these exercises are very similar to the teachings of Yoganada.”

My eyes lit up and he asked if I was familiar with his teachings. I told him I had joined SRF in 1996. He asked if I had gone to the ashram in Encinitas or taken the monthly lessons by mail. I smiled and told him I had done the mail-order version and had been doing the exercises daily, and teaching some of them ever since.

As 8am approached the group grew to about 50 people and Peter led us in the Edgar Cayce Exercise program. The exercises were fun and I can see myself incorporating some of them into the ones I teach. They bring the bouncing of Qi Gong, the stretches of yoga and the strength poses of Pilates all together, very much like the classes I have been teaching for years.

As the class finished and we were getting our belongings together the woman beside me said, “These exercises are very much like Kriya yoga.” I was surprised when she mentioned Yogananda’s Kriya exercises and told her Peter had said earlier Cayce’s exercises were similar to his. She looked at me and asked, “Are you a Kriyaban too?”

“Yes,” I answered. We hugged and headed in to get good seats for the day’s presentations. I didn’t notice she was right in front of me when I sat down and I later found out the man beside me had also studied Kriya yoga some 30 years ago. I wondered how many Kriyabans were present.

Dr. Norm Shealy started the day by having us pair off with someone we did not know and practice what we had been learning. I looked at the woman beside me and asked her to start by telling me what she saw. I wondered if any of my past medical oddities would show up; blindness in one eye, deaf in both ears, meningitis, brown recluse spider bite, etc. She told me she saw nasal congestion and she was right. I had been waking up in the morning with a stuffed up nose wondering if I was still detoxing the venom from the spider.

When I read her I started by telling her I did not claim to be a medical intuitive, I was just at the conference to see what it was all about and I closed my eyes. I told her I saw something in her throat area and then I scanned her body with my hand. The scanning showed heat in her abdomen. Much to my surprise she said she had broken her neck and still suffered with pain in that area and she was experiencing digestive problems.

We were told to pick up with another partner and do another reading. This time we were instructed to see if we could determine the root cause and make suggestions on how to help them heal. I held the hands of the woman who chose me and I told her she seemed pretty healthy but needed to do more exercise. I jumped up and showed her the gentle bouncing I suggest my students do every morning when they roll out of bed to get their metabolism going. I also told her I believed her parents had told her to eat everything on her plate. When she nodded yes, I told her she didn’t have clean her plate anymore.

After the group was done with this reading, Norm asked if anyone had anything to say.

The woman I had intuited stood up and said, “Diane was right on in her reading. Many
doctors have told me I need to exercise and finally someone has shown me an easy exercise I can do every day.”

Norm asked if I would like to show the group this exercise.

I jumped up and said, “YES.” He invited me up to the stage and there I was, microphone in hand answering questions and showing about 300 people an exercise I’d shared with hundreds of others over the years. I always get excited when I share my exercises, but this time I was on stage with an Icon of the Healing World and I’m pretty sure I was floating at least 3 inches above the stage. The applause I received when I went back to my seat and the gratitude expressed throughout the rest of the conference made me happier than I could ever attempt to put into words.

Then Norm skillfully led us through a past life regression and I was amazed at what came out of it for me. He had us start with a quiet meditation and asked us to focus on any pain present in our body. I had done a lot of walking so I focused on my aching knee. As he guided us to go back to the lifetime where the injury may have occurred, I found myself standing in front of a mud-shack with no idea what century I was in. We were told to look down at our feet and make note of what we had on, mine were barefoot and dirty. We were told to go inside and notice who was present and what they were doing, my children were there, 3 of them, and we all began preparing the meal together.

Then we were told to go upstairs and go to bed at time, in my mind’s eye, my husband grabbed my arm and jerked me onto the bed and proceeded to be very abusive to me. When we were gently brought out of our meditation, I realized my shoulder had been bothering me for a few days and forgotten all about it. This was my first experience in doing a past life regression and it makes me wonder why many relationships in my present life, and apparently my past lives, have not been particularly pleasant. Guess I’ll have to work on that.

Our afternoon presenter was Winter Robinson, and she was, in a word, wonderful. She began by telling us she had been listening to the other speakers’ presentations and when she realized how advanced our group was, she had completely changed her presentation. We were already healers in our own right and she wanted to enhance our practice and talk to us about healing the world.

She told us she was most well known for her work at Brown University with intuition and medical students. She now lives in Maine, my home state, where she and her husband grow most of their vegetables, year round. She encouraged all of us to start growing our own food because the days of these “$3000 salads” trucked to us from across the country must end. We watched a slide show presentation and were reminded of the Shambala Prophecy, that by 12-12-2012 there would be a huge shift in energy on this planet. If we work hard enough we can exponentially shift it to be a positive one.

Winter took us through what she called her beach meditation and asked us to remember the things we saw during our walk in our mind so we could write them down when we came back. We started on a beach, walked up a walkway, up a cliff, to a house, up some stairs and into a room, back down the stairs, spoke to a woman and then a man, gave a child something, and then walked back to the beach. The whole meditation took several minutes and when we were finished, we hurriedly wrote down everything we could remember. During our discussion many felt as though they drifted off into silence but she when she helped us remember they realized they actually followed her lead. We shared and discussed and she analyzed many of our answers.

When we broke for lunch we were instructed to play a game with a partner. One would close their eyes and the other would lead and we were to put our hands out, about 6 inches apart and the leader would put an object between them for us to psychically see. I was surprised at how accurate I was.

When we returned from our afternoon break we paired off for more psychic work, this time back to back with someone we had not yet worked with and one of us was told to draw a picture. When they were finished drawing the other person was asked to duplicate the picture on their paper.

When people began comparing pictures the similarities were amazing. I was to copy the drawing my partner did and when we looked at them, they were completely different. She said, “Some of you may have to turn your pictures to the side” and we looked again in amazement. The lake I drew was the same shape as the hole in the tree he’d drawn and the cabin beside the lake I had scribbled was the same shape and mirrored the location as his rock. Everyone has intuitive abilities, we just need to practice using them more.

The next exercise she had us do was facing this partner, holding hands with one of us concentrating on a problem we were facing while the other one tried to tune in and tell what that problem was. I focused on my indecision as to where I should settle down, my home in Florida, my home in Georgia or to relocate completely to Virginia Beach where I felt so comfortable with so many like-minded people.

He closed his eyes for awhile and when he opened them he said he felt I was having difficulty deciding what to do with my life. He could sense me trying to decide between 3 places and that one of them I felt a responsibility to return to and teach. He not only hit the proverbial nail on the head but he also showed me the feeling of responsibility I hadn’t considered. He suggested I not worry about where I thought I should be and that I should follow where my heart led me. Time will tell what I will eventually do, but for now, I must continue with my responsibilities to my Self-Healing work in Florida.

Last, and certainly not least, was Barbara Rasor. I really liked her style. She was abrupt, had a great sense of humor and quickly helped people attending to work through their emotional hang-ups. I can hear her saying, “We do everything because we are motivated to do it. Whether we like to admit it or not, we are driven by motivation.”

During the break I asked her if she could help me understand why I felt such a need to please my parents. She asked me if I would be willing to work through it on stage, and I told her, with a little reservation, I would.

I climbed up in to the hot seat, as she called it, and told her I wanted to try to overcome the need to please my parents because I was beginning to realize, no matter what I did, it was never good enough. She asked me when I thought this all started and I answered somewhere around 10 or 11. She stepped back and put herself in tune with me and said, “No, I would say closer 6 years old.”

“That would be when we started to bring report cards home,” I agreed with her.

“Ask your inner child to step out, over here,” she pointed in front of her. I closed my eyes and put my 6 year old self in front of Barbara.

“Now, what do you think of your parents?” she asked.

“My parents are nice people,” I told her.

“Wait, your inner child stepped back in. Tell her to step out again and tell her she was a good girl, she did a good job and thank her for the work she did. Also tell her what you think she did for you.”

I was amazed at the waves of emotion going through me as I told my inner child, “You were a good girl. You tried so hard and I thank you for always trying to do your best. It has helped me always be the best I can be,” and the tears began to sneak down my cheeks.

“Now, the next time you talk to your parents if you find yourself feeling like that child again, just ask her to step out and talk to them as an adult. And it is ok to cry, you should be crying,” she told me as I got out of the hot seat while everyone applauded and shed a few tears with me.

Barbara helped two more women through similar yet different issues. One woman had dealt with feelings towards her mother but not with her father. When Barbara explained to her, her father was her co-creator, she realized, on stage, she was working through some more unfinished business.

The other woman had tried not to feel guilty about the day her father left for work. She knew, at age five, when she watched him walk out the door, she would never see him again. Barbara had her thank her five year old inner child for knowing in advance he was going to die because she may not have been able to withstand the shock if she had not sensed he would not return.

Barbara stayed and talked to many of us, as did all the presenters, for close to an hour after her presentation was done.

Sunday morning was three hours of extremely interesting questions from the audience while the four healing teachers answered, laughed and worked together, respectfully.

Then, the woman who would not (or could not) make eye contact with me during the healing dances we had done with Ellen, stood up asked what she could do about her husband bringing the energy of their household down. She complained about the politics he watched on TV and the speakers on the stage tried to make her understand what he was watching on TV wasn’t the problem, it was how she was reacting to it. She needed to either love it or leave it. She didn’t look particularly happy with their suggestions. Some people get it and some just don‘t.

I especially liked what Dr. Norm Shealy said about the upcoming election. He told us not to get stressed out about it. We should take part in calm debates and to not be attached to the outcome. It would be what it would be and the best thing we could do is to simply put white light and love into everything.

I knew The Beatles were right. Love really is all we need.

From the moment I arrived on the A.R.E. Property until the afternoon I tore myself away, I felt as though I was being continuously bathed in wisdom and love. I look forward to my next visit to this Virginia Beach establishment and to learning much more from the accomplished, caring health educators I was so blessed to have met.

Peacefully yours, Diane
